More TV Talk

Ohhhhhh, for a few minutes last night there was a chance that Adam would be GONE ;) Not that I was attached to Matt, but I just don't care to listen to Adam.

I've been watching reruns of "Reba" on Lifetime. Anybody else think it's funny?!

I love "Medium", but the last 2 episodes have just been depressing....I'm not sure what's going on with that show.

"Lie To Me" is a good show too.

Hmmm, Survivor is on tonight. Who are you rooting for? (And you better not say the icky "Dragonslayer Coach", lol)

And the free class passes go to....

Thank you to everyone that commented! And the winners are......

"Playing With Scraps" Play Along Challenge (1)

Hi, all,
I appreciate all the comments on the Giveaway post! Thank you so much, and keep them coming, as I'll pick 2 winners first thing in the morning.

To give you a little taste of what the class is all about, I'm posting an easy "play along" challenge. Anyone can play, whether you are interested in the class or not. I think it might get your scrappy wheels turning :D

I designed the class with a tutorial that follows my design process - to help those of you that say "How do I start? How do I know what colors to choose? What makes a layout "work"?" The scrappy tutorial contains 5 examples with full explanations for how to choose scraps of paper that "talk" to you, and the layout examples later in the lesson are completely different for even more practice choosing scraps to tell your stories.

So play along with me! Above I'm showing you 3 photos. For this challenge, make up a story that you want to tell about the photos - pretend they are your photos and that you have a story that you want to share with me. With your story in mind, choose 3 or 4 words that describe the feelings, thoughts, or emotions you want to communicate thru your scrapbooking design. Post a comment with your brief story and "feeling words". On Monday, I'll post my own story and words for these photos, and we'll take the next step in our "play along" challenge! (PS. If you HAVE purchased the class, be sure to check back for something a little different than what you might expect ;) )

Got Crafts?

So now I can tell you what I've been busy working on for the past few weeks!

I've partnered with "Got Crafts?" (brought to you by the scrapbooking superstars, Janna Wilson and Valerie Salmon), and I'm thrilled to be able to offer you my tips, ideas, and never-before-seen layout designs with complete step-by-step instructions in an easy, downloadable format. This downloadable class is very much like the types of classes I've traveled across the US teaching with a few GREAT changes. You get MORE layout designs to inspire, fresh ideas and fun techniques that you can apply to your own stash (and we all love stash busters), AND a great price point (because I'm not having to fly, or kit and ship heavy product). Valerie and Janna are dedicated to offering a great value for all their project kits and classes, and so you can bet my class passed their stiff inspection ;)

You can see all the details here -
http://gotcrafts.typepad.com/downloads/playing-with-scraps.html

Check it out!!

PS. I'll have some giveaways shortly, but don't let that stop you from hitting the "Buy" button. If you win a free pass on my blog and you've already purchased the downloadable, we'll refund your purchase price.

For 2 years, Michaela has begged for me to take her photo with a bunny ('cause I have one of Olivia with a bunny hanging on the wall). Today was officially "Bunny Day"!

New slideshow and profile picture

My new headshot (long overdue) taken by my 9 year old - really! She did a great job, standing in a chair and holding up my big cam. My hubby tried. He did, but he was in a hurry, and in the 10 minutes after he left, the light changed and she got the best shot ;)
I wish I could add some of the 150 layouts I've done over the past 18 months to my slideshow, but if I did, my book material for "Playing With Paper" and "Kick It Up!" wouldn't be very fresh would it? lol So, the oldies will have to do. If you are wondering where you can see new stuff from me online.....well, that's coming VERY soon. Let's put it this way - it's ideas, tips, and layout designs from me in a great new format. I can't wait to tell you about it!

Been working on something and TV

And I've neglected the blog for a bit. But, I'm excited about some news I can share in a day or two....it's been keeping me really busy! Softball season has started too, so I'm at the park with Michaela quite a bit (love that).

You guys know I love television - here's my TV update:

Love Medium, but last night was really weird.

Medium and Castle come on at the same time - so I watch Castle online and if you haven't watched this show YOU MUST. It is really smart and funny and I think you'll like it!

I'm enjoying Survivor this season. Was bummed that Brendan got the boot last week (cause I really, really, really dislike He-Who-Runs-His-Mouth-And-Is-Too-Big-For-His-Britches). Taj better up her game or she won't make it much further. She's playing it too safe. Stephen makes me gag.

American Idol - well....I really like Kris and Allison, and would rather Gokey and Lambert go home. Does that make me a minority? Probably, but I just don't see anything in Gokey, and Lambert doesn't appeal to me, although I can see how he might be IT in some crowds. He comes off as fake and snakey to me.

In Plain Sight began new shows last night. It was a bit slow, but watchable.

I'm SO SAD that The Sarah Connor Chronicles is over....loved that show, and wanted it to go on.

Heard Lipstick Jungle got canned, and I enjoyed that one too.

Been watching Little Dorritt online (pbs.org). Haven't watched last night's installment but hoping it picks up. Where's the romance?! lol That Rigaud character gets too much screen time.

What else do I watch? Hmmm, The Mentalist which is good and I catch parts of The Biggest Loser and Celebrity Apprentice (not really invested in them though).

That's all I can think of - I told ya, I like TV :D

Back in a couple days to spill my news!

My second book is up for preorder on Amazon.com, and I got my first glimpse of the cover this morning :D That is my nephew on the cover, and I can't wait to see his expression when he sees it!

Still working on the details of my special somethin'. Will let you know very soon!

Nothing like Got Sketch to get you scrapping!

A friend of mine is celebrating her second anniversary. Not a wedding anniversary, but a blog anniversary! If you haven't visited Got Sketch lately, you should check it out today.

http://www.gotsketch.blogspot.com/

Valerie Salmon invited me and some other scrappers to use one of her sketches as inspiration for a layout in celebration of her blog being 2 years old. I love the ease of following a sketch (or not following it, if the mood strikes) and her blog continually offers wonderful layout and card sketches to keep us scrapping :D She's doing something special all this month, including prize giveaways, so be sure to add her blog to your list of "gotta read" blogs.

Working on a little somethin'

I caught myself thinking back....had I scrapbooked a layout since the first week of this year???? The answer was "no". I've done a few crafty things, but since finishing up "Kick It Up", I've not scrapped any pages. This past week found me actually scrapbooking :) A layout that will appear on the web tomorrow (I'll point you there when it goes up), AND some special things for another somethin' I've got going on. I'll tell you all about it very soon.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of hanging out with my sister and some friends who also like to scrapbook. We ate WAAAAYYYYY too much, and had an all around good time. I stayed up until 2:30AM the first night, but crashed at midnight on night #2, lol. Thank you, Debbie, for your warm hospitality and love. And thank you to Jennifer, Janet, Audrea, and Mom for a wonderful time!

What a little scrappy stuff can do!

My youngest is celebrating a birthday this week, and she requested that we PLEASE hang one of her Christmas gifts on her wall in her bedroom (isn't that pitiful?! lol). Well, she didn't realize that I was waiting to add some "stuff" to it before I put it up. So, I tackled it this morning with some older, but still favorite, products from Autumn Leaves, Making Memories, Heidi Swapp, and K&Company. I hope she likes it!

Last day to sign up for the book giveaway! Just add a comment to the giveaway post, and I'll post a winner tomorrow morning!

Scrapbook Store Owners ALERT

I've had several requests from store owners for information on ordering my book, Playing With Paper, to sale in their stores. It's easy - just call 1-800-298-0963 to place your order! Thank you for your support!!

Janet won't believe it

Let me explain. Janet is one of my oldest scrapping buddies - no, she's not old, but what I mean is that I've known her since the beginning of my scrappy life. We met when I was driving 2 hours to crop with a group of scrapbookers (something that was hard to find in those days), and she was driving 3! Since then we've shared lots and lots of good times. So, Janet came up for a visit this past week, and she brought along her scrapping stuff. She tried her BEST to get me to scrap something for her....and, I did try. But, I just couldn't! I've not gotten past my book burnout yet. So, imagine her surprise when she sees this album I put together today for a relative. She won't believe I did it ;) I used K&Company embellishments mixed with some buttons and various papers, and the white mats are 4X6 (or close) so that the mother can easily/quickly attach some photos of the little one. She's a scrapbooker, and I hope she likes it.

If you've seen the book, I'd love to know where and what you think about it! If you are looking for a copy online, Amazon.com is a great place to shop!

Kick It Up last peek

My second book, Kick It Up, with Greta Hammond co-authoring, is FINISHED. I have one last edit to do before it goes to print, and I wanted to share some little peeks of the last batch that went out the door last month.

Playing With Paper is available now at your favorite online retailer (Amazon, Target, Memory Makers), or in stores (although I've not spotted it on a bookshelf yet). I hope you'll check it out!

Catch up and Kit

Oh, boy, I didn't realize it had been almost a month since an update. Our weather has been up and down here, and we've been fighting off one sickness after another. I'm enjoying a cold, but sunny day here in Mississippi. As I prepare for a huge Scrapbook Blowout Sale (sooo many goodies that somebody needs to use, instead of it sitting here in boxes), I'm pulling out all sorts of stuff. I found this kit that I had stuck back to teach, and the right opportunity never presented itself. I taught it once before at a retreat and loved the versatility of it. I decided to give it a "girly" cover option by adding ribbons, 3-d glittered flowers, and some green paper for POP. I added some photos to show how easy it is to customize for your own themes - family, pets, back to school, pumpkin patch, fall, petting zoo, boys, friends, etc.

It is a kit packed with stuff -
8.5 X 5.5 SEI Preservation Album with 10 protectors included
American Crafts white chipboard thickers
7 Gypsies Fortunes rubons (love, love these numbers!)
Lots of papers and all the little buttons, circles, metal rim tag, brown paper clip, mini brads, and ring die cuts you see in the photos.
Color copy of project, and full instructions.

Only things not included in the kit are the 2 big stamps (Play and Smile). Any large alpha stamp will work, or you might even have these Heidi Swapp stamps in your stash.

Blowout Pricing - $22 plus shipping. Buy 2 or more (give the kit as a gift, or make one for a loved one), and they are $20 each plus shipping.

I also have a couple of Boo Albums left at $25 - look for info on an earlier blog post.

Hope you enjoy what is left of February! I've heard from several of you that Amazon is shipping your copies of my book :D Can't wait to hear your opinions and thoughts on it.

Tennis, anyone?

Anybody watching the Australian Open? I've been watching, mostly hoping to catch Federer or Nadal playing. But, in the meantime, I've watched some great matches, and tonight I caught the Delic/Djokovic match. SUCH a great match, and I was really rooting for Amer Delic to win. Federer is on the schedule, but I'm not sure I can stay up to watch, so I'll try to watch the rerun tomorrow. This love of tennis has been a surprise to me. I've watched Wimbledon for several years, but last year I also watched the US Open and other matches on the Tennis Channel, and I really like it! So, when I heard that Federer had committed to play in the Davis Cup matches in Birmingham, Alabama - just 2 hours away - I splurged and bought tickets to go! Olivia and I will be up in the nosebleed section, lol, BUT we'll be watching world class tennis (and hopefully Roger, lol) . I'm so excited! Tickets went really fast, and now they've showed up on Ebay and ticket broker sites for really ridiculous prices. Doing something like this is so unlike me, but I don't think I'll regret it. If you have any advice for a newbie attending her first big tennis event, let me hear it :)
